Emails are usually only encrypted until they land on the first mail server. On there they are accessible via plaintext.

The reason why the mails aren’t always end-to-end encrypted is lack of knowledge of this issue.

The mails could also have been tampered with! (No signature as well)

Also we can’t virus scan encrypted mails for malware.
